A fragrant postpartum steam blend created to support warmth, softness, and gentle ritual care during the fourth trimester.


Homecoming Steam is designed for the postpartum body as it transitions back into itself, when circulation is recalibrating, tissues are healing, the lower abdomen may feel heavy or stagnant, and the nervous system is integrating the intensity of birth and early motherhood.

This blend brings together deeply supportive botanicals traditionally used for warmth, tissue repair, emotional unwinding, and gentle pelvic circulation. It is intended as a ritual space: a moment to slow down, reconnect with the body, and support natural postpartum flow and release.

Use as part of a grounded postpartum recovery practice, always after bleeding has significantly slowed and with appropriate healthcare clearance.


Ingredients


Calendula: Supports clearing of mild heat and encourages tissue repair. Calendula is associated with gentle movement in the lower burner while supporting healing and reducing localized inflammation.

Chamomile: Calms Liver Qi and helps ease emotional tension. Traditionally used to support the Shen (spirit), especially when stress, overwhelm, or nervous system activation is present.

Rose Buds: Moves constrained Liver Qi and supports emotional release. Often used for grief, sadness, or postpartum emotional stagnation, while gently opening the Heart–Liver connection.

Mugwort: Warms the uterus and moves cold stagnation in the lower burner. In TCM, mugwort is strongly associated with dispelling cold, promoting circulation, and restoring warmth to the womb space.

Motherwort: Moves blood, supports uterine recovery, and gently regulates postpartum stagnation. Traditionally used in postpartum care to support healthy uterine contraction and clearing of any residual build up in the womb space.

Comfrey: Demulcent and tissue-supportive. Used in Western herbal traditions for soothing and supporting tissue repair; energetically grounding and restorative.


Directions for One Steam

  1. Add 1/2 cup of the herbal blend to 2 quarts of freshly boiled water.

  2. Cover and steep on low for 15–20 minutes.

  3. Pour into a steam-safe basin and allow to cool to a comfortably warm temperature.

  4. Create a comfortable space on the ground with towels and pillows as needed. Either kneel over the pot and wrap a bath towel around your waist to keep the steam contained, or you can come onto all fours over the pot and lay your torso down on a supportive pillow on the ground in front of the ensemble.

  5. Steam for 15 minutes, wrapped warmly to retain heat.

  6. Rest, hydrate, and stay warm afterward, keeping belly, back, and feet covered with cozy socks.
