Lotus Heart Congee

A soft evening congee for rest, replenishment, and calming the spirit. Gentle and lightly sweet, this nourishing congee was inspired by traditional ingredients often used to support deep rest and postpartum restoration.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup white rice
  • 1/4 cup millet
  • 1/3 cup dried lotus seeds
  • 2-3 TBSP dried longan fruit
  • 1-2 tsp goji berries
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 TBSP coconut oil
  • Tiny pinch of sea salt
  • 8-9 cups water

Directions
  1. Rinse the rice, millet, and lotus seeds well.
  2. Simmer with water for 60-90 minutes until creamy.
  3. Stir in longan and goji in the final 15 minutes.
  4. Finish with vanilla, coconut oil, and salt.

Lotus seeds are traditionally used to ground and nourish the spirit, while longan and goji berries gently support blood and emotional restoration. Together with a base of easy-to-digest millet and rice, this congee is crafted to provide deep, quiet replenishment for the tender postpartum period.

1/4 cup millet

1/3 cup dried lotus seeds

2–3 TBSP dried longan fruit

1–2 tsp goji berries

1 cinnamon stick

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 TBSP coconut oil

Tiny pinch of sea salt

8–9 cups water

Rinse the rice, millet, and lotus seeds well.

Add the rice, millet, lotus seeds, cinnamon stick, and water to a large pot. Bring to a gentle boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 60–90 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick, creamy, and soft. Add additional water if needed.

During the final 15 minutes, stir in the longan fruit and goji berries.

Remove the cinnamon stick. Stir in the vanilla, coconut oil, and a tiny pinch of sea salt.

Serve warm and slowly, preferably in the evening or during quiet moments of rest.
